Does Kratom Cause Weight Gain? I have seen this question come up many times recently so I wanted to share my thoughts and experiences.

Although most people tend to lose weight with kratom, others report that the plant has the opposite effect on them. So, does kratom cause weight gain?

Unfortunately, there is not enough research on kratom to determine how it affects weight. However, I can find some answers based on my experience and evidence. Possible causes for kratom weight gain might include:

Constipation: one of kratom’s well-known side effects is constipation and bloating. Since kratom is a plant fiber staying hydrated is so important. This might be the reason for some individuals to gain weight with kratom.

Hormonal causes: anecdotal evidence shows that some women who are taking birth control pills may experience weight gain when using kratom. However, switching birth control pills has helped some of them lose unwanted weight. I actually had to do that myself.

Unhealthy habits: due to kratom’s bitter taste many people mix the powder with sweet drinks to mask its taste. This habit may increase the regular calorie intake of the individual and, for this reason, the person could experience weight gain.


How to Maintain a Healthy Weight


If you feel that kratom is causing your weight gain, there are some measures that you can take to help maintain a healthy weight.


Eat healthy: simply increase your vegetable and fruit intake and reduce consumption of high-carb, sugary, processed foods.


Drink enough water: this will allow you to stay hydrated. On the other hand, avoid drinking sugary drinks including most fruit juices, many of which contain as much sugar as a can of Coca-Cola.


Exercise regularly: this will help you burn more calories, hence lose weight.


Finally, if you think that kratom is making you gain weight, stop the intake for a few weeks to determine if that’s really the cause, or if there’s something else that might be causing the problem.


In my personal experience I have had no weight gain but actually the opposite. Because of the increased energy it gives me, I am way more active. Because of kratom, I also drink a lot more water, which helps me maintain a healthy weight that I am happy with. I hope this helps!
