When it comes to kratom, athletes, coaches and gym-goers all have their opinions about the plant. Some say that its is a great pre-workout supplement, others say that it helps them with aches and pains. Many athletes take kratom because it is known to increase energy during training and exercise and many feel it improves endurance as well. Kratom is also known to help take the edge off of pain, which can help an athlete continue to train despite muscle soreness following strenuous workouts. There are also many competitors who feel kratom provides beneficial results with regard to the anxiety and stress they may otherwise have a hard time dealing with during important competitions. Some people find it surprising that Kratom is not banned by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) or WADA (the World Anti Doping Agency). These organizations are responsible for setting and enforcing policies with respect to Performance Enhancing Drugs otherwise known as PEDs. Kratom was on WADA’s “monitored” list for several years, meaning they were aware of the substance and looking into whether or not to ban it, but in 2018, following the conclusion of WADA’s investigations, kratom was officially removed from the monitored substances list, and kratom is now acceptable for athletes competing at the highest levels.
