Why the area where Kratom is grown matters
Kratom is mainly originated in Southeast Asia, and it is most commonly grown in three countries: Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Vietnam is another neighboring country that grows good quality Kratom. This makes Thai, Malay, Indo, and Vietnam the main Kratom strains based on the region.
Kratom is currently banned in Thailand. The Greater East Asia War in 1942 and declining revenues from the opium trade eventually suppressed the opium market competition by making kratom illegal. The Kratom Act, passed in 1943, which made planting the kratom tree in Thailand illegal, while existing trees were cut down and burned. Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Justice Minister Somsak Thepsutin have inked two agreements to push for the removal of kratom and marijuana from the narcotics list this year.
Indonesia is known to be the ideal environment for the growth of Kratom. Indonesian kratom grows abundantly and wildly due to the ideal humidity, rainfall and sunlight, making it one of the best regions for growth and production. While Indonesia encompasses a large area, Indo strains are commonly used as an umbrella to describe the more sedative varieties, often hybrids (intentionally or unintentionally) of Bali and Borneo strains.
